History of Good Shepherd Preschool
Good Shepherd Preschool began in 1991 as an outreach of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church. We welcomed our first class in September of that year. Following the established protocol at the time, the Maryland State Department of Education approved our program in early 1992. We grew steadily in the years since and, in recognition of the quality of our offerings, later sought child-care licensing and MSDE accreditation.
We are licensed by Montgomery County as a Private Educational Institution. Good Shepherd Preschool takes the health and safety of your children seriously, so we hold ourselves to the higher standard required to be a licensed child-care facility.
In 2011, Good Shepherd Preschool received full Maryland State Department of Education accreditation. MSDE accreditation affirms that Good Shepherd maintains the highest standards of academic excellence. GSLP renewed its MSDE accreditation in 2014, 2017, 2020 and 2023.
In 2013, Good Shepherd Preschool completed the evaluation process for the Maryland EXCELS Pilot Program and was awarded a Level 4 score. In June 2018, the Preschool earned a Level 5 score, the highest quality rating. Maryland EXCELS is a Quality Rating and Improvement System created as part of the state's Race to the Top grant plan to improve school readiness. Our participation in Maryland EXCELS demonstrates our commitment to continually improving our program.
