The First Day of Winter, by Denise Fleming: This cute book adapts the classic carol “The 12 Days of Christmas” to the process of building a snowman. Repetitive texts like these help promote reading fluency. Children who are starting to decode books independently will love being able to “read” this long story with the help of its repeating words.
