There’s nothing like cooling off in the water when it’s hot outside! Here are some great local places to splash around and cool off!
Germantown Splash Park: https://montgomeryparks.org/parks-and-trails/splash-park-mini-golf/
This place was one of my kids favorite places to splash in the summer! Its all fountains and water tables and just silly fun running around getting soaking wet without the worry of a pool. There are tables but you need to get there early to snag one. Next door, there is a bounce pad (that gets pretty hot in the summer sun), and minigolf. There is an entrance fee.
Olde Town Splash Pad: https://www.gaithersburgmd.gov/recreation/parks-fields/olde-towne-plaza
This free splash pad is near Gaithersburg City Hall and Community Museum! Hours are listed on their website. There’s even a park near by so you can run around and get all sweaty and then cool off at the splash pad. One of my favorite lunch spots is right there and called Java Junction - they have sandwhiches, coffee beverages and plenty of snacks!
Spectrum Splash Pad: 230 Spectrum Ave., Gaithersburg, MD 20879
You have to do a little work to see when this one is open and call around but it’s a lovely fountain area to play. The kids love to set their towels up on the turf and run around the fountains. There are plenty of businesses near by that offer seating to customers but other wise seating is limited so bring a blanket or chairs. The fountains are in the sun, but there is shade available. There is also a public bathroom to use for changing. The owners of California Tortilla will often bring out some candy for the kiddos and their menu is kid friendly. Barking Mad Cafe makes a mean iced coffee!
Rockville Town Center and Olney Splash Pad
Both of these are hard to find out if they are on but they are free and located next to plenty of eateries and even local libraries.
Bohrer Park Pool: https://www.gaithersburgmd.gov/about-us/city-facilities/water-park
This is an amazing public pool with awesome life guard and a child wading area that’s always a hit. It’s larger pool is zero depth entry and there are different water slides. There is an admission charge and admission is limited at different times of the year to City of Gaithersburg residents.
Greenbrier State Park: 21843 National Pike, Boonsboro, MD 21713
If you are up for a little bit of a drive check out this man-made tank lake. There’s sand and water but no big waves so it’s great for a family with littles to enjoy. Pack something for shade, sitting, and sand and water toys. It can get busy so check their Twitter feed to see if it’s full for the day. If you are looking to prolong your adventure, head over to South Mountain Creamery after to grab some fresh local ice cream and schedule an appointment to feed the baby cows with giant milk bottles!
