Support GSLP's Scholarship Fund

Maryland assessment data shows that children who attend private preschool programs such as GSLP score highly on school readiness measures.

Part of GSLP's mission is to reach out to the surrounding community and offer families in need the chance to enroll their children in a high-quality early education program.

GSLP’s Scholarship Fund provides need-based scholarships for our Pre-Kindergarten and Early Pre-Kindergarten classes. If you would like to help build our ability to reach students who just miss the income cutoff for public pre-K, please consider a tax-deductible donation to our fund.

Book Nook: Warm Up this Winter with a Great Seasonal Book

By Colleen Fischer, Educational Program Director

The Mitten Tree, by Candace Christiansen: Old Sarah notices a boy without mittens waiting for the bus, so she knits a pair and secretly hangs them from the tree by the bus stop. Soon, she notices other children in need of mittens and knits more and more pairs. She eventually covers the whole tree in mittens for the children. But do they know who she is? Find out in the book! Available from our Family Lending Library in the Seasons bin.

Oh!, by Kevin Henkes: This simple story with repetitive text is sure to please our youngest readers and any children starting to read on their own. Discover all the animals and children excited to play outside on a snowy day. Available from our Family Lending Library in the Seasons bin.

Winter Rabbit, by Patrick Yee: Bear and Squirrel decide to make a friend to play with before they hibernate this winter. They build a big white rabbit out of snow, who enjoys snowball fights, skating, snacks, and more with Bear and Squirrel before walking off into the sunset. Available from our Family Lending Library in the Seasons bin.

The First Day of Winter, by Denise Fleming: This cute book adapts the classic carol “The 12 Days of Christmas” to the process of building a snowman. Repetitive texts like these help promote reading fluency. Children who are starting to decode books independently will love being able to “read” this long story with the help of its repeating words. Available from our Family Lending Library in the Seasons bin.

Corduroy, by Don Freeman: This classic book features a teddy bear named Corduroy. He hopes to go home with a little girl, but her mother discourages her from buying a bear missing a button on his overalls. Corduroy goes on an adventure through the store in search of his missing button. Available from our Family Lending Library in the Audiobooks bin.
